Jazz Flute School Ep.2

Today is the first update to Jazz Flute School, this is Ep.2!

What I do is show you exactly how I do the triad pairs with the metronome. this week I’ve gotten the exercise up to metronome marking 80 (mm80). Also I show the the book I got this excise from. When I was in school for my jazz studies degree, triad pairs became popular. The book we used is by Gary Campbell, a noted saxophonist. Click here for an updated version of this book from Amazon.

Next I go through the Charlie Parker tune and solo Kim, from the Charlie Parker Omnibook for “C” instruments, at mm66. In spite of the slow tempo, I do make a few mistakes – we’ll see how long it takes to get to a decent tempo! I’ll discuss how you use the concepts from this solo on the bandstand in a future episode.

If you have any practice tips you particularly like, tell me about them in the comments, I’d love to know what works for you!
